Get Involved
Become a member of CUP! We have weekly meetings every Wednesday at 7:30 PM in 333 Curry Student Center. We also have five different committees for general members to get involved with. Each committee has bi-weekly meetings during our regular meeting time where your input is greatly valued. You can learn more about our committees by clicking on the buttons below.
Committees
Want to help bring your favorite musical artists to Northeastern? Here’s your chance! The opinions of the Springfest and Small Concerts Committee are extremely valuable in deciding who we bring to campus as we recruit both local and national talent from a wide range of styles. The Concerts Committee helps book artists for Afterhours, Northeastern’s very own music venue in the Curry Student Center. Past performers include Halsey, Noname, Wet, Pinegrove, Lauv, Frankie Cosmos, State Champs, The Districts, Julien Baker, Tor Miller, and The Mowgli’s to name a few. As a member of the Concerts Committee, you will also get an inside look at how our annual Springfest Concert in Matthews Arena is planned. Past Springfest Concert performers include Chance The Rapper, Rae Sremmurd, Kesha, Jason Derulo, Tove Lo, Bad Suns, Atlas Genius, and many more.
In addition to making your voice heard, you’ll have the opportunity to get involved with concert production on the day of the show. This includes everything from helping the bands with their equipment, setting up dressing rooms, and handling artist requests.
The Lectures and Showcases Committee is made up of members who love TV shows, movies, comedy, celebrities, social media stars, inspirational speakers, or all of the above! By coordinating and producing shows on campus, we bring speakers and comedians who provide humor, insight, inspiration, and awareness. Previous acts brought by the Lectures and Showcases Committee include Improv Asylum, Casey Neistat, Eric Andre, Jessica Williams, Josh Peck, Adam DeVine, Ben Schwartz, Aidy Bryant, and many more.
As a member of the Lectures and Showcases Committee, you will have the opportunity to act as a representative for the entire student body and help us decide which comedians and speakers to bring to campus. During meetings, we’ll spend time brainstorming people who we think would work well in Blackman, Afterhours, and other on-campus venues. Committee members will also be exposed to the process of booking, marketing, and promoting each event. Additionally, committee members will be able to help as volunteers for our shows as we offer shadowing opportunities for those of you who may be interested!
Do you love thinking outside the box? Are you interested in festivals, event planning, and getting Northeastern students involved on campus? Do you want to help organize unique and creative events? If you answered yes, the Springfest Week and Special Events Committee is for you! Special Events in CUP encompass anything that falls outside the scope of live music, speakers, and comedians. Past events include movie screenings, award show viewing parties, trivia, paint nights, and other varied events around campus. We have also hosted interactive activities like a hypnotist, a silent disco, and Escape the Room.
Committee members also work together to plan the highly-anticipated Springfest Week, which takes place every year in April and features the Springfest Concert. Each day of Springfest Week highlights a different event, such as a showcase, lecture, concert, carnival, and more! We make this all happen by branding the week, deciding on the tagline, marketing the events on campus, and designing t-shirts and swag that will be given out (for free!) at all of the week’s events. Committee members will be at the forefront of planning CUP’s special events and Springfest Week, so they’ll be able to volunteer and help run the events that they made happen. The Springfest Week and Special Events committee is very open-ended, and it has a lot of room for creativity in planning new and exciting events!
Members of the Finance and R&R (Recruitment and Retention) Committee help to welcome new members into CUP while also considering some of the financial aspects of the club. One of the most important parts of this committee is coming up with creative ideas on how to get Northeastern students involved in CUP by asking ourselves how we can better attract and retain new members. Additionally, we work to manage the club’s budget to make sure that the events we’re planning throughout the year are economically attainable. In our committee, we continuously try to find new ways to recruit general members and keep them coming back week after week. This includes coming up with events and outings that are specifically planned for general members, generating fresh fundraising ideas to increase our cash budget, and anything else you can think of! We also like to see our committee members partake in volunteering at our events. Whether that means being a photographer, a blogger, a runner, or something else, there are a ton of great ways to utilize your creative side through the Finance and R&R Committee!
The Marketing and Design Committee is responsible for creating and implementing promotional strategies for all of CUP’s events. In this committee, we will focus on generating fresh, new ideas for posters, flyers, banners, and any other content that’s used to promote the club’s activities. In addition to managing our social media, we handle the street-level promotion in order to make sure that everyone on campus knows about our events. We do this by hanging posters, using sidewalk chalk, and tabling to reach every student on campus.
Committee members will also help to create all of our artwork and designs. This includes posters, social media assets, club cards, t-shirts, free giveaways, and other promotional materials. While members should be interested in marketing, design, and/or content creation, all abilities are welcome! Bring your expert skills or come to learn some new ones. This group is the perfect place for the creative-minded individual as we’ll work to bring our ideas to life.
